The 'Steibock', known as a male mountain ibex to English speakers, is one of the Alps' majestic guardians. The species, that is recognised as a wild mountain goat in the world of zoology or capricorn to astrologists, thrives in the harshest Alpine conditions and is a world champion mountaineer.

Their majestic horns never stop growing. Each spring, a few centimetres are added in length - which makes their age can easily determined by the number of rings. Males carry much longer and heavier horns - their size is a symbol of individual strength and they are used to fight for their rank within a heard.

Though they can exert extreme force, they are generally timid and peaceful animals. Conserving their energy for long, steep migrations as seasons change, they stay curious from a distance.
